A tour of the future
The path of tomorrow is determined by the one we take today and at the moment we are walking, wide eyed, on a very rocky path towards the unknown effects of irredeemable climate change, ready to blindly throw ourselves into the abyss.
In front, walks a band called ‘Climate Summit’ which is playing an never-ending tune as requested by big business. But in that abyss, a severe, pervasive and irreversible impact on the planet and us awaits!
The gap between the science and what governments are actually doing remains huge and It is up to people everywhere to hold their governments to account, to get them to act purposefully and immediately!!
The atmosphere of Venus is much denser and hotter than that of Earth. The temperature at the surface is 740 K (467 °C, 872 °F), while the pressure is 93 bar. The Venusian atmosphere is made up almost completely of carbon dioxide which supports opaque clouds made of sulfuric acid, making optical Earth-based and orbital observation of the surface impossible. This composition causes a runaway greenhouse effect that heats the planet even hotter than the surface of Mercury, although Venus lies farther from the sun.
The atmosphere of Earth is a mixture of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), and other gases (1%) that surrounds Earth. The atmosphere is an important part of what makes Earth livable. It blocks some of the Sun's dangerous rays from reaching Earth, the oxygen within our atmosphere is essential for life. Over the past century, greenhouse gases and other air pollutants released into the atmosphere have been causing big changes like global warming, ozone holes, and acid rain.
The IPCC's declaration or Report; that the world will warm further than 1°C pre industrial levels is being kind. The reality is that it will rise to 1.5 °C by 2022 and from then on anywhere between 2 °C and 4 °C. We failed to choose to limit warming, or continue with our carbon rise and instead have decided to take our chances in a world that will be around 3 °C + and rising in the very near future and all the unforeseen consequences that it will bring.
The first half of this century we are carrying on business as usual and summit after summit have done nothing. If we do not introduce any dramatic changes to our life styles or activities in terms of consumption, travel and the number of children we have. Almost imperceptibly the ecosystem services and its cycles will collapse as heat waves, droughts, forest fires, torrential downpours and floods become a perpetual cycle of climatic events. These events are more noticeable and more aggressive and will get a lote worse much sooner than you think.
